Double Cab vs Crew Cab: What Are the Differences?

Double cabs and crew cabs have some similarities, the biggest being that they fit up to six passengers comfortably. In Chevy trucks, double and crew cabs also offer short bed and regular bed options, which are a huge factor when determining which truck is right for you. Some Chevy trucks like the Colorado only offer crew cabs, while others like the Silverado 1500 offer both.

Double Cab vs Crew Cab: Dimensions

When it comes to selecting the right Chevy truck for you, cab dimensions can be an important factor. Because the Colorado only offers crew cabs, this section will focus on the Silverado 1500 because it offers both double and crew cabs. Starting with the front, double cab and crew cabs get the same amount of space:

• Headroom: 43.03 inches
• Legroom: 44.53 inches
• Shoulder room: 66.02 inches
• Hip room: 61.18 inches

The second row is where things start to change. The crew cabs offer 40.12 inches of headroom, 43.4 inches of legroom, 65.16 inches of shoulder room, and 60.24 inches of hip room. Double cabs, on the other hand, offer 39.88 inches of headroom, 35.24 inches of legroom, 64.88 inches of shoulder room, and 60.24 inches of hip room.

Crew cabs also tend to be a bit longer than double cabs, as they’re just over 241 inches in length with a standard bed to the 231 inches the double cabs provide, also with a standard bed. Double cabs, however, offer slightly more ground clearance, at 7.89 inches to 7.75 inches in the crew cabs.

Whether you go for a double cab or crew cab, the standard bed versions allow for a maximum cargo volume of 71.7 cubic feet. Cargo box length tops out at 79.44 inches, while the width is 71.4 inches. Crew cab short beds offer 62.9 cubic feet of cargo space. The cargo box width is the same as a standard bed, while the length is about 10 inches shorter.
