PERFORMANCE
Chevy Blazer

When considering any vehicle, it’s common practice to take a peek under the hood. After all, you’ll want to know your chosen ride has the power to get you reliably from Point A to Point B. While both models give you the power of choice, one offers just a bit more.

Looking Under the Hood

Looking at their engine options, both models offer two choices of powertrain. The 2023 Chevy Blazer offers more customization, however. Its available engine can be equipped to three trim levels, while the available engine of the Ford Edge is only available with one trim.

Also, the engines on the Blazer will come paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The engines of the Edge, on the other hand, will come with either an 8-speed or 7-speed automatic transmission. Having additional gears at your disposal will provide a smoother, more seamless ride as well as improve fuel economy.

Balancing Power With Efficiency

The 9-speed automatic transmission works hard to optimize the Blazer’s efficiency. In fact, it can achieve an EPA-estimated 22 city/29 highway MPG. Meanwhile, the Edge only manages up to an EPA-estimated 21 city/28 highway MPG.

Plus, the Blazer’s 19.4-gallon fuel tank will enable you to travel even farther in between fill-ups than the 18.5-gallon tank in the Edge. In fact, the Chevy will let you drive 427 city miles or 563 highway miles before needing to stop to refuel.

CAPABILITY
Chevy Blazer

Capability is another aspect to consider, given that you’ll want a sturdy vehicle that can handle different tasks. Whether you’re heading off the asphalt and onto the road less traveled or plan to tow equipment or a recreational toy, these SUVs make it possible.

Capable to the Core

Both models come with an all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration that will provide enhanced stability. However, the Chevy Blazer offers a standard Driver Mode Selector, which you won’t find on the Ford Edge. With this system, you’ll have your choice among five drive modes, including Tow/Haul, Off-Road, Snow/Ice, and available All-Wheel Drive. There’s also Tour mode, which utilizes front-wheel drive, as well as Sport, which gives more of a boost.

While the Ford Edge ST trim offers a Sport mode, you won’t find a selector system like on the Blazer.

Towing Capacity

Looking at towing potential, the Blazer provides more towing power. If you opt for the Chevy Blazer, you’ll be able to tow a maximum of 4,500 pounds when properly equipped. On the other hand, the Ford Edge falls short by only allowing you to carry up to 3,500 pounds.

TECHNOLOGY
Chevy Blazer

In-vehicle technology is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity. Whether your next trip is a short jaunt across town or an extended road trip across several states, you’ll want to be able to remain informed, connected, and entertained.

Infotainment on the Go

The Blazer and the Edge have similar technology features, including standard:

  • Bluetooth®
  • Apple CarPlay™
  • Android Auto™
  • Wi-Fi® hotspot

Plus, both models feature large HD color touch-screens, 6-speaker audio systems, and available wireless charging.

Safety Tech—And Then Some

Of course, no technology is more important than the safety features that help protect you and your passengers. Through their respective driver-assistance suites—Chevy Safety Assist and Ford Co-Pilot360™—the Blazer and the Edge add an extra layer of protection to everyone on board.

Some of their similar safety features include brand-specific versions of:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • IntelliBeam auto high beams

The Chevy model also includes standard Teen Driver technology. If you have a new driver in the family, this feature with customizable settings may prove especially helpful.

When your novice driver gets behind the wheel of the Blazer, they’ll first have to buckle their safety belt before shifting out of Park thanks to the Buckle to Drive feature. Plus, you can limit certain vehicle features, such as speed and stereo volume, to encourage better driving behavior. When they arrive back home, you can then review the in-vehicle report card and use it to coach your new driver.

Other than a Belt-Minder® feature, the Ford Edge goes without a similar proactive safety feature.
