2022 Chevy Silverado 1500

When it comes to towing, the Chevy Silverado 1500 is one of the best pickups in the business. This guide will let you know exactly that your truck can do.

Power

Even if you just go with the base engine, you’re going to get a very powerful truck. This is a 4.3-liter V6 that generates 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. There are four other engines to pick from:

  • 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder: 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque
  • 3.0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder: 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque
  • 5.3-liter V8: 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque
  • 6.2-liter V8: 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque

Depending on the engine and trim you choose, you can get either a six-, eight-, or 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive comes standard, but four-wheel drive is available.

Towing Capacity

While the base V6 engine can tow between 7,200 and 7,900 pounds, the higher up you go, the more towing capacity you’ll get. Of course, these numbers are dependent on the cab you pick, and the trucks have to be properly equipped.

  • Turbo-4: 9,000 to 9,600 pounds
  • Turbodiesel: 9,000 to 9,500 pounds
  • 5.3-liter V8: 9,300 to 11,500 pounds
  • 6.2-liter V8: 9,100 to 13,300 pounds

Available Towing Features

There are a number of features you can add to your Chevy Silverado 1500 to augment its towing ability, including:

  • A trailer hitch and platform
  • Hitch guidance with hitch view
  • A trailer tire pressure and temperature monitoring system
  • An in-vehicle advanced trailering system
  • A trailer brake controller
